During World War One, the Parker family lived here, when it was called Queen's Cross House.
Private Ralph Jonas Parker was the youngest of seven children of William Parker, who ran a butcher’s on the High Street. Ralph went out to France in August 1918 and was killed in action there on October 23rd 1918, at the Battle of the Selle. He was 18 years and 8 months old and is buried in France.
