During World War One, this shop was a butcher’s, George Porch and Sons.
George’s son Trooper Ashton Porch was wounded in Ypres, Belgium, in 1915. He received wounds in the head from a periscope breaking in his trench, and was sent to hospital to have glass extracted from the wounds.
