The Swan Hotel - Corporal Moore

Corporal George Ernest Moore was the “under boots” at the Swan Hotel leading up to World War One.
He enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry during the first days of the war in August 1914 and was killed on August 1st in 1915. The Wells Journal reported that George “was killed instantaneously by a shell bursting right over him whilst he was doing his duty in the trenches”.
George has no known grave but is remembered on the Menin Gate at Ypres.
